Cycling through the Baltic States

Baltic States and surrounding areas. Historical centre of Vilnius, one of the largest in Eastern Europe (360 ha), where the most valuable historic and cultural heritage is concentrated. 2 ancient Lithuanian Capitals – Trakai and Kernave, known for incredible nature and heritage. Charming spa town Druskininkai. Kaunas – second largest city and the capital of Lithuania between the World Wars. Ancient Hanseatic city with cobble-stone, picturesque streets of the Old Town of Riga. Sigulda, located in the picturesque Gauja Valley dotted with caves and castles. Old town of Tallinn with its Town Hall Square, numerous churches, the Toompea Castle. And of course bicycle paths, specially designed to get acquainted with the most famous places of the Baltic States!

 

 

Through Baltics

Day 1

Vilnius-Trakai-Elektrenai-Vilnius (cycling 40 km, by coach 80 km)
The cycling begins in Vilnius – the capital of Lithuania. Meet the leading guide, jump on your bicycle and start sightseeing tour of Vilnius. The Old Town, historical centre of Vilnius, is one of the largest in Eastern Europe (360 ha). The most valuable historic and cultural heritage is concentrated here. Visit Vilnius Cathedral and its square, Gediminas Castle, the University campus, Pilies street with the 16-18th century historical and architectural monuments, Gothic corner of Vilnius with St Anne's and Bernardine churches, the former Town Hall square. 
Later transfer by coach to Trakai (28 km ) - the ancient capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Visit the 15th century Insular Trakai Castle, housing an exhibition on prehistoric findings and the 17-18th century applied art, the way of life of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes and the Karaites, brought to Lithuania from the Crimea.
Cycle through the Trakai Region by a picturesque rolling road through the land of lakes and hills and passing by Elektrenai where the most powerful thermal power station in Lithuania is located. In the late afternoon private transfer by coach from Elektrenai to Vilnius for overnight.
 

Day 2

Vilnius-Druskininkai (cycling 25 km, by coach 130 km)
Private transfer by coach to Druskininkai through the tranquility of unspoiled nature & past. Visit to Dzukija National Park located in Southern part of Lithuania, famous for wild forests, mushrooms and berries, authentic villages and friendliness of local people.
Explore Druskininikai by bicycle. Druskininkai is known for a well-developed network of cycling and hiking trails in the surrounding pinewoods. One can choose among 10 km, 13 km or 21 km circuit trails called the Orbit of Starsthen. 
Cycle along Nemunas river through pinewoods to the Grutas Park (10 km from Druskininkai) - an outdoor museum of notorious Soviet political figures.. Such a large concentration of monuments and sculptures of ideological content in a single outdoor exposition is a rare and possibly unique phenomenon in the world. After relax and stay for overnight in charming spa town Druskininkai. Enjoy yourself at spa or water amusement park.
 

Day 3

Druskininkai-Kaunas (cycling 20 km, by coach 130 km)
Private transfer by coach to Kaunas – second largest city and the capital of Lithuania between the World Wars. Jump on your bicycle and explore Old town of Kaunas with it’s St George's church, castle ruins, Theological seminary, the Town Hall Square, the Jesuit church, the Cathedral, the Church of Vytautas and the Perkunas House. Hundreds of years of cultural heritage is preserved in the historical and architectural monuments, museums, theatres, art galleries and churches of Kaunas. There is main bicycle route crossing Kaunas from Town Hall Square on the west to Independence Square on the east.
After cycling take a rest at hotel in Kaunas.
 
 

Day 4

Kaunas-Hill of Crosses-Rundale-Riga (cycling 10 km, by coach 300 km)
Departure to Riga with en route stops at the Hill of Crosses - a unique place of national pilgrimage, and the Baroque Rundale Palace created by B. Rastrelli. Afternoon arrival in Riga, the capital of Latvia. Gentle cycle through the night streets of Riga Old town, after take a rest at hotel in Riga.
 

Day 5

Riga (20 km)
Jump on your bicycle and explore Old town of Riga. Enjoy the beauty of the ancient Hanseatic city, while strolling through the cobble-stone, picturesque streets of the Old Town. In Old Riga you will see the Dome Cathedral, the Church of St.Peter, the old Guild Houses, the architectural ensemble Three Brothers, Old Riga Castle, and much more. Afternoon free to visit cozy restaurants, cafes, bars and souvenir shops. 
Day 6Riga-Sigulda-Tallinn (cycling 45 km, by coach 360 km)
Transfer by coach alongside the Riga Bay to Tallinn. En route stop in Sigulda, located in the picturesque Gauja Valley dotted with caves and castles. Cycling from Sigulda through the Gauja National Park to Ragana. En route visit the ruins of the 13th century Crusaders Castle in Sigulda, Turaida Castle and Krimulda church, the oldest one in Latvia (built in 1205), enjoy spectacular views of the Gauja River valley with Gutmana Cave. Afternoon transfer by coach to Tallinn for overnight. 
 

Day 7

Tallinn (20 km)
Jump on your bicycle and explore the Old town of Tallinn with its Town Hall Square, numerous churches, the Toompea Castle. The most outstanding sights include a 14th-15th century Gothic Town Hall, St. Nicholas church, now housing a museum of medieval art; an old chemist's shop; numerous authentic Hanseatic merchants' houses, etc. Afternoon free to explore Tallinn on your own, visit galleries, theatre or whatever you like. Take a rest and finish the tour at hotel in Tallinn.

Day in 2 ancient Lithuanian Capitals. Pleasant morning cycle to Trakai (28 km ) - the ancient capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Visit the 15th century Insular Trakai Castle, housing an exhibition on prehistoric findings and the 17-18th century applied art, the way of life of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes and the Karaites, brought to Lithuania from the Crimea. Later transfer by coach to ancient capital of Lithuania – Kernave, where you will be able to climb 5 mounds and enjoy a superb breath-taking view of the river valley graced by the bends of the river Neris. Transfer back by coach to Vilnius. Overnight in Vilnius.
