The organic goat farm “Geltona pieva”, established by Gintė and Zigmas Kazlauskas, has been in operation since 2012. The farm’s main activity is production of fermented cheese from the milk of goats and sheep. Semi-hard and soft fermented cheeses are made from goat’s milk, including fresh cheese as well as cheese matured in an old-time cellar and feta-type cheese bits in oil with dried tomatoes, basil, garlic or rosemary. In the future, it is planned to begin producing yogurt and cheese from sheep’s milk. Visitors can purchase the farm’s products, ride the žemaitukas (little Samogitian horse breed) mare Klumpė, and see how fermented cheese is made (as part of the educational programme “Cheese Road”). Upon arrangement in advance by telephone, the homestead may be visited on any day of the week.
