The countryside tourism homestead (owner Janina Rumšienė) is surrounded by four wonderful lakes within the territory of the Žemaitija National Park, on then shores of Žiedelis Lake, 4 km from the town of Plateliai and about 15 km from Plungė. Cosy rooms with all essential conveniences are available to guests. The homestead has many varied recreational opportunities, from an outdoor tennis court to a sauna with a hot tub.
Guests may order local (Samogitian) dishes prepared according to recipes handed down by the owner’s grandmother and mother-in-law. The dairy products used to prepare the food (milk, soured milk, farmer’s cheese and so on) are purchased from local farmers. In 2012, national heritage product certification was awarded for producing kastinys (a Samogitian dish made from cream, soured milk and butter flavoured with herbs). Recipe for kastinys: 1.5 liters of fresh cream, a teaspoon of butter, caraway seeds, garlic, salt. Using a wooden spoon, turn together a tablespoon of cream and a tablespoon of butter in a clay bowl. When small lumps form, continue to turn, having placed the first bowl into another bowl containing hot water (do not overheat). Remove the first bowl from the water, add another tablespoon of cream and continue to turn, again heating the first bowl. Continue in this fashion until all cream has been used. When finished turning, the mass should be of uniform consistency, of whitish colour. When the mass begins to thicken, add the caraway seeds or garlic.Serve with hot, unpeeled potatoes.
