The medieval crafts, warfare and folk lore yard is only beginning to take shape. The idea’s authors are Mindaugas and Miglė Valaitis, who moved out of Vilnius and settled in Rietavas. They seek to set up a space next to the Rietavas open-air market for showcasing medieval warfare and crafts and for organising educational activities for adults as well as children about their ancestors’ way of life and customs. It is planned to build roofed stalls in which dairy farmers and cheesemakers can sell their products, demonstrate their crafts, e.g., the cheese production traditions and processes, the necessary tools and so on. An open-air market for selling products made by local producers will be open on Sundays, the Rietavas open-air market days.
