Taking a look at the contour of Lithuania map, in the blink of eye would everyone notice a small ”appendix” at the south-eastern of the country protruding into the territory of Belarus. This is where Dieveniškės village is situated. Due to a unique ethno cultural heritage, the vicinity of Dieveniškės have the status of historical regional park, the only such among the 30 regional parks of Lithuania. The regional park was established in September 24, 1992, in order to save the treasures of natural and cultural heritage in Dieveniškės vicinity. The regional park covers 8 794 hectares. There are 36 villages within the boundary of the regional park.
In the territory of the regional park there are the following preserved units: landscape reserves of Gauja, Norviliškiai and Stakai, geomorphologic reserve of Dieveniškės, zoological reserve of Gauja, ethno cultural reserves of Becionys, Poskonys, Rimasiai and Zizmiai, and urbanistic reserve of Dieveniskes.
