Zuvintas wetland, 6940 ha, is a natural complex, covering a small human-influenced, very natural variety of swamps and shallow-lake, is the largest in Lithuania.
The lake is only 0.6 m depth because of the shallows. Zuvintas Wetlands is one of the most important places in Lithuania for biodiversity, especially for birds. Here the populations of Marsh Harriers, Little Crakes, Cranes, Bluethroats are the largest in the country. During the migration there are huge amount of cranes, geese, ducks, sandpipers and other flocks of birds. Zuvintas wet meadows - is one of two locations in Lithuania, where the extremely rare, globally endangered Aquatic Warbler can be found. This species is included in the list of international (IUCN) species threatened with global degradation.
In the last 30 years, 234 bird species have been observed in Zuvintas.
