It could sound surprisingly strange, but the history of medical tourism goes way back to the Greeks and Romans if not even further. At that time pilgrims would travel to shrines and pools that were said to contain healing powers.
Medical tourism, also known as health travel, medical travel, or global health care is in the recent time rapidly gaining popularity in Lithuania by tourists from Middle East, United States, Western Europe and elsewhere. All this is reasonably explained first of all by low prices: Lithuania is a real solution to the high cost of healthcare in other countries – it is 3 to 4 times cheaper.
