2011_logoEvery year a different place, organised by a different member clubs of the FH-DCE.
This is the most European Harley-Davidson Rally that you can imagine. Riding a Harley-Davidson is meeting new friends; discover other countries and cultures and this is all packed in the FH-DCE Super Rally®.
It goes from North to South, east to west, and every year a new surprise. From the salmon in the North, to the pasta and cookies in the South. That’s what makes the FH-DCE Super Rally® really super.
But talking about Super Rally®, were does the name come from? For this answer I had to go many years back.
We go back to the sixties when Harley-Davidson Clubs from the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium meet each other at Harley-Davidson Rally’s. One of the most popular Rallies was the Pinster Rally in Holland. The first one was organised by H-D C Utrecht (this club later changed their name to Harley-Davidson Club the Netherlands). The Pinster Rally become bigger and bigger and also the program was more then at a normal Harley-Davidson Rally. After the Pinster Rally in 1973 the name was changed to Super Rally, why is not very clear. Possible that a French group promised a Superrrrrrr Rally for 1974 as it should be in Paris France. But they cancelled the Rally just one week before, so in fact the First Super Rally was a NOT a Super Rally at all.
In 1975 the first Super Rally was held at Kastelree Belgium. It was not as big as it is now, but it was organised with the same goals and ideas as it is now

Zalgiriui600-spalvotas-didelisCelebrations in Lithuania

On the 15th of July, 2010, we will celebrate the anniversary of one of the most famous battles of medieval Europe, being at the same time one of the most important events in the history of Lithuania – the battle of Grunwald. On July 15, 1410, the united army of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland defeated the Teutonic Order, stopping the Teutonic expansion to the eastern coastal lands of the Baltic Sea. The battle (called in Lithuanian the battle of Žalgiris, and in German – the battle of Tannenberg) left a lasting mark in the historical memories of many nations. The memory of Grunwald and of the Grand Duke Witold who played an important role in the victory influenced the historical awareness of the Lithuanian nation, becoming a permanent symbol of national identity. The memory of the battle enhanced the political awareness of the magnates of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania between the 15th and the 18th centuries, as well as of the national revival activists in the 19th and 20th centuries.

For the 600th anniversary of the battle, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania announced a jubliee programme with the intention to protect the memory of the battle of Grunwald, search for new ways to underline the meaning and importance of the historical event in Lithuanian society and consider the common future with other countries of the region.

The programme of the celebrations will include events that will present to the Lithuanian people and to the international community the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the war heritage, diplomatic traditions, the commemorations of the battle of Grunwald and its importance for the development of the Lithuanian state identity.

The celebrations will be coordinated by the Ministry of Domestic Defense, with participation of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, the Bank of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Postal Service, the Lithuanian Museum of Art, the National Radio and Television, Vilnius University, University of Witold the Great in Kaunas, the Institute of the History of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Sports Association „Žalgiris“, the State Department of Tourism, municipal governments, social organisations and others.

Classical and religious music concerts are held almost in all Vilnius churches.
kaziukas2Kaziuko mugė (English: Kaziukas Fair) is a large annual Lithuanian folk arts and crafts fair dating to the beginning of the 17th century. It was originally held at the two main markets in Vilnius, Lithuania, as well as in the city streets. The fair is traditionally held on the Sunday nearest to St. Casimir’s Day, March 4, ( this year Kaziuko fair will be held 5 - 7 March) the day Saint Casimir Jagiellon died. In Lithuanian, Kaziuko mugė means “Little Casimir’s” Fair (Kaziukas is a diminutive of Casimir).

Today, Kaziukas fair also features music and dance; it attracts tens of thousands of visitors and many craftsmen from all over the country as well as from neighboring states such as Latvia, Russia, and Poland. The pavilions of the fair occupy streets and squares in the Old Town of Vilnius.

The arts and crafts at the fair include hand-made goods from local craftsmen, such as apparel, knitted clothes, footwear, toys, utensils, metal crafting, souvenirs, and paintings. Foodstuffs such as rye bread, bagels, honey cookies, meat and diary products, natural honey, beer, and kvass are sold as well. Traditional “palm” bouquets (called “verbos”, hence Verbų sekmadienis) are one of the fair’s specialties. Made of colorful dried flowers and herbs, they are taken to churches on Palm Sunday. The shape of the “palms” resembles a lily, a flower with which St. Casimir is traditionally portrayed. Another popular product at the fair is the “muginukas”, an often heart-shaped honey cookie, decorated with colored sugar flowers, zigzags, dots, and birds. Popular men’s and women’s names are written on the cookies. People buy them to give to their loved ones. It is a custom to bring some back for anyone who had to remain at home.

Folklore dances and songs, all weekend of joy and merriment. From knick knacks to a real value bargains….come and check it out by yourself !
